GTI and Partners Including FAS Instruct Jacksonville First Responders

The Gas Technology Institute and partners including FAS, the Fire Academy of the South at Florida State College, have trained more than 150 stakeholders and first responders in and around the Port of Jacksonville in liquefied natural gas awareness.

‘Modules to Tailor Training to a Specific Client’s Needs’

The Illinois-based Gas Technology Institute is preparing new course on liquefied natural gas, including the eight-hour Intro to LNG as a Marine Fuel now slated for September 21 at the Crowne Plaza Galleria in Houston.

“This one-day course is a primer for anyone interested in learning the basics of using low flashpoint fuels like LNG in marine propulsion,” GTI says. “The course explores the current and planned infrastructure, the properties of LNG as a marine fuel, responding to a release, the current regulatory framework, and the basics of the types of bunkering technologies and their operations.”

GTI-logoIn addition to the introductory course, “We are developing a set of modules that can be used to tailor training to a specific client’s needs,” says GTI course leader Margaret Doyle.

Among the topics to be covered are

  • Rules and Regulations for LNG as a Marine Fuel;
  • LNG-Fueled Vessel Design, Fuel Storage, and Gas Fuel Systems;
  • LNG Fuel Transfer Operations;
  • Bunkering Safety;
  • General Bunkering Operations Overview; and
  • Emergency Operations.

Doyle is a longstanding 
 member of
 the U.S. Coast 
Guard Chemical
 Committee. She 
chairs the CTAC 
for safety standards for the design of vessels carrying natural gas as a cargo or fuel.

GTI has slated Fundamentals of Baseload LNG: Markets, Technology, Economics for September 21, also at the Crowne Plaza Houston Galleria.
