San Diego’s GD Nassco has reported the start of work on an additional LNG-ready ship for American Petroleum Tankers and the first LNG-ready tanker for Seacor/Sea-Vista. Seacor has ordered three of the “Eco”-design ships while APT has ordered five.

Could Be Two More Eco Tankers, Which Would Take Total to Eight

General Dynamics Nassco said Tuesday that it has a contract to design and build a third LNG-ready, 50,000-deadweight-ton tanker with a 330,000 barrel cargo capacity for Florida’s Seabulk Tankers, with an option for one additional vessel. Construction at the Nassco yard in San Diego is to begin in 2015, with delivery in the fourth quarter of 2016.

Contract Follows Newbuilds Announced in December

San Diego’s General Dynamics Nassco will handle the design work as Totem Ocean Trailer Express converts its two 839-foot Orca class container ships to LNG operation. Nassco designed and built the Orca-class Midnight Sun and North Star, which were delivered in 2003.
