Reverse-Stern CNG Tug Pledged for 2016

MTU, Damen and Svitzer Are the Development Partners

The German engine manufacturer MTU Friedrichshafen (a subsidiary of Rolls-Royce), Damen Shipyards of the Netherlands, and Denmark’s Svitzer have pledged to bring the first-ever reverse stern drive CNG tug to market in 2016. The compressed natural gas-fueled tug will have a new, 100% natural gas engine by MTU.

Arctic Vessel Concept Developed with Delft University of Technology

South Holland’s Damen Shipyards Group has publicized the liquefied natural gas-fueled, “double-acting” Arctic Modular Towing Supply Vessel. The Damen 328-foot AMTSV concept was developed with students from the Delft University of Technology.

‘Will Set a New Industry Standard in Inland Shipping’

Holland’s Damen Shipyards Group – with partners including the QaGroup inland shipping concern and Damen’s own Bodewes Binnenvaart unit – are promoting a new concept for an efficient, 100% LNG-fueled vessel, dubbed EcoLiner, to be 360 feet long (110 meters), based on the Damen River Liner 1145.
