E&P Sector Faces Substantial Impacts from EPA Rule

Organizers of HHP Summit 2016, working with exhibitors Caterpillar and Cummins, are preparing a special workshop on the U.S. EPA’s Tier 4 regulations governing E&P operations. Full implementation of the rule is imminent, “and the impacts on drilling and pressure pumping operations will be substantial” as operators in the U.S. and Canada have approximately one year to purchase Tier 4F-compliant equipment.

Pennsylvania General Energy and Universal Well Services are using Cummins QSK50 engines converted to dual fuel operation with Cummins kits for hydraulic fracturing. The target is 70% diesel displacement.

Dual-Fuel Technology for Mining and E&P, Upfit Kits Too

Cummins has disclosed plans for natural gas-diesel dual-fuel engines, beginning with the 16-cylinder, 60-liter QSK60 for mine-haul trucks, and is talking up duel-fuel engines for oil and gas production, initially the 50-liter QSK50, as well.
