The Gulf Coast Shipyard Group is talking up the launch late last week of the first of six 302-foot, LNG-fueled offshore supply vessels for New Orleans-based Harvey Gulf International Marine. The first of the dual fuel ships, Harvey Energy, will be the first U.S. flag vessel to be operated primarily on liquefied natural gas. It’s to be operated under charter for Shell.

LNG Tanks for PSVs Starting with Boat Number 4,
As Deliveries of Wärtsilä Engines Have Commenced

Harvey Gulf, which is building the first U.S. flag ships to be fueled by liquefied natural gas, will have main LNG fuel tanks from aerospace giant Lockheed Martin, effective with the fourth and fifth LNG vessels. Lockheed is to build the 67,000-gallon tanks at the same Michoud facility in Louisiana it used to manufacture cryogenic hydrogen and oxygen tanks for the U.S. Space Shuttle.
