Ferguson Marine for the First LNG Vessels to Be Built in the UK

Scotland’s Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd has tapped Wärtsilä to supply the liquefied natural gas-diesel dual fuel engines and LNGPac fuel systems for two new 336-foot (102.4-meter) ferries. Slated for delivery in summer 2018, they are “the first ever dual-fuel ships to be built in the UK,” Wärtsilä notes.

CalMac has evaluated a number of options for meeting emissions restrictions coming into force next year, says technical director Scott Ure, and has chosen LNG as the best.
