Recommended Practice for Regulators, LNG Suppliers & Ship Operators

Noting that “the lack of harmonization of bunkering operations” is “one of the key hurdles” to increased LNG use by global marine operators, DNV GL has issued a new Recommended Practice for regulatory authorities, LNG bunker suppliers and ship operators, providing guidance on safe and efficient bunkering of liquefied natural gas fuel.

‘Procedures for LNG Bunkering for Supporting Clean Shipping’

The Antwerp Port Authority has commissioned DNV to develop operational procedures for LNG bunkering in preparation for supporting clean shipping in the region, DNV says. The port aims to position itself among the leaders in the Hamburg-Le Havre region ahead of stricter emissions controls entering into force in 2015, says the Oslo-based classification society (Det Norske Veritas).

Waller Marine’s LNG and regasification ATB concept – for an articulated tug barge designed to facilitate the transfer and use of LNG in placed with limited infrastructure – has been granted approval in principle by the U.S. classification society ABS.
