In Zeebrugge, Rolls-Powered Borgøy Tug Is Fueled on Its Way to Norway

Holland’s LNGEurope is promoting its role in the first truck-to-ship bunkering of a seagoing liquefied natural gas-fueled vessel at the Flemish coastal port of Zeebrugge “or any other port in this part of Europe.”

First Dedicated-LNG Tug, Turkey-Built, Delayed by Weather

Rough weather has delayed the transit of the world’s first dedicated-LNG tugboat, which was built in Turkey and is now slated to enter service in Norway in March. The 125-foot Borgøy has yet to clear the Mediterranean, and as of this morning was bound for a fueling stop in Cartagena, Spain, says a source with engine provider Rolls-Royce.

Handover to Operator Buksér og Berging Is Expected Soon

Watch for two dedicated-liquefied natural gas tugs with Rolls-Royce Bergen engines to be handed over to owner-operator Buksér og Berging on or about October 5. The pioneering vessels for Norway were built at Sanmar Denizcilik’s new yard in Tuzla Bay in Turkey.

Hulls of Two Buksér og Berging Boats Are 40% Complete

Norway’s Buksér og Berging reports 40% completion of the hulls for two dedicated-LNG escort tugs – said to be the world’s first – for long term terminal service at Statoil’s Kaarstoe terminal in southwest Norway.
