Kinder Morgan says it’s expanding its growing fleet of tankers via a definitive agreement, “valued at an all-in price of $568 million,” for four new liquefied natural gas-ready ships to be built at the Aker Philadelphia Shipyard in Pennsylvania.

Aker Philadelphia for 850-Foot ‘Aloha Class’ Vessels for Hawaii Trade

Honolulu-based Matson said November 6 that it’s investing $418 million in a pair of 850-foot, 3,600-TEU container ships with dual fuel engines for delivery in the third and fourth quarters of 2018. They will be built by the Aker Philadelphia Shipyard, and will be “the largest Jones Act containerships ever constructed,” Matson said.

Four for Sure, Possibly Eight Ships by Aker Philadelphia

Crowley Maritime says it’s contracted with Aker Philadelphia Shipyard for as many as eight new petroleum tankers for delivery between 2015 and the end of 2017, and that someday they could be fueled with liquefied natural gas.
