Special Permit from U.S. DoT for High Capacity CNG Trailer
Quantum Fuel Systems said today that it’s received a special permit from the U.S. Department of Transportation for its new VP-650 virtual pipeline trailer for transporting compressed natural gas to off-pipeline customers.
The VP-650 uses Quantum’s Q-Lite brand Type IV CNG cylinders, vertically mounted, yielding at 5,000 psi “the highest capacity available in the industry at approximately 650,000 standard cubic feet.”
“The trailer design and integration will house other unique features that will set this product apart from existing trailers, including push button shut-offs, independent lock-off features, and other technology to ensure a full fill is achieved every time,” states today’s release.
Deliveries Promised Within the Month
The VP-650 is mounted in a 45-foot hi-cube shipping container and has also been designed for sea transport, the company says.
“The trailer is available for immediate sale and deliveries are expected to begin over the next 30 days.”
The 51-cylinder VP-650 was unveiled at HHP Summit 2015 in Dallas (HHP Insight, November 2, 2015).
