Carnival Corp said this week that its Carnival Cruise Line is slated to take delivery of two new 180,000 gross-registered-ton, LNG-fueled cruise ships in 2020 and 2022. Also this week, Carnival said that its P&O Cruises UK unit will take delivery of an LNG-fueled ship in 2020, making for a corporate total of seven LNG ships on order.

Two 870-Foot ConRo Vessels for the Hawaii Trade

Matson and GD Nassco said yesterday that they’ve signed a $511 million contract for Nassco to build two additional LNG-ready container ships for Matson’s Hawaii service. The two 870-foot, 3,500 TEU, Kanaloa-class roll-on/roll-off vessels are slated for delivery at the end of 2019 and mid-2020.

Quebec’s Groupe Desgagnés is trumpeting the successful launch of the first of four liquefied natural gas-diesel dual fuel tankers it’s building at the Besiktas shipyard in Turkey. M/T Damia Desgagnés was launched for further outfitting on June 11, and is expected to be delivered by year-end to transport 13,350 tons of asphalt-bitumen.

Astilleros Gondan earlier this month launched the first of three liquefied natural gas-diesel tugboats at its shipyard in Figueras, Spain. The 132-foot (40.2-meter) vessel is “the first dual fuel tug ever built in Europe,” Gondan says.

Ferguson Marine for the First LNG Vessels to Be Built in the UK

Scotland’s Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd has tapped Wärtsilä to supply the liquefied natural gas-diesel dual fuel engines and LNGPac fuel systems for two new 336-foot (102.4-meter) ferries. Slated for delivery in summer 2018, they are “the first ever dual-fuel ships to be built in the UK,” Wärtsilä notes.

Firm Previously Opted to Convert Vessel to Methanol

The Sweden-based Stena Line says it’s contracted for four new ferries, to be built by AVIC in China, for delivery during 2019 and 2020. “The main engines will be ‘gas ready,’ prepared to be fueled by either methanol or LNG,” states a release.
