Capstone for Italian Pasta Producer

Order Reflects ‘Strengthening of the European Market’

Capstone Turbine Corp reported an order for a natural gas-fired C600S microturbine for combined heat and power by Italy’s Il Pastaio di Maffei yesterday, and said the order “demonstrates the strengthening of the European market and continued growth of CHP applications worldwide.” updated June 6

Capstone president and CEO Darren Jamison also said, “Forward looking executives at companies such as Maffei are increasingly looking at ways to improve operating results while simultaneously reducing their air emissions and total carbon footprint.”

The natural gas-fueled C600S microturbine for Italian pasta maker Il Pastaio di Maffei is to be commissioned in December.

The natural gas-fueled C600S microturbine for Italian pasta maker Il Pastaio di Maffei is to be commissioned in December.

IBT Group, Capstone’s Italian distributor, secured the Maffei order, which is expected to be commissioned in December 2016.

Saturated Steam for Food Production

“This is our second significant order from IBT Group this quarter,” Jamison said.

The natural gas-fueled C600S unit for Maffei is to produce primary power and three tons of saturated steam per hour using a co-fired steam boiler. “The 600-kilowatt microturbine will operate in a grid connect configuration at over 80% system efficiency,” Capstone says, “which will significantly lower the site’s grid reliance and reduce the company’s carbon footprint.”

‘A Perfect Application’

Family-owned Maffei has been making pasta since 1960 and is now a globally recognized brand, Capstone says: “Working directly with IBT Group, Maffei selected Capstone microturbines for their ability to efficiently produce saturated steam for pasta production and their ability to be easily expanded to a C1000 to support larger energy loads in the future.”

“Steam-based microturbine CHP is a perfect application for food manufacturing as it simultaneously reduces costs and maximizes operational efficiency.”

Seven C65 Microturbines via Distributor BPC Engineering,
Which Has Agreed to Pay Cash Before Shipment in Future

Capstone Turbine Corp said last week that it is resuming shipments of its microturbines to Moscow-based BPC Engineering, its largest Russian distributor. The order, consisting of seven C65 microturbines, is the first to be shipped to BPC Engineering since March 2015.

“The seven C65s are for a project that has been delayed since the beginning of last year,” BPC Engineering CEO Alexander Skorokhodov said in a Capstone release.

Capstone reports an order for seven of its C65 microturbines via its largest Russian distributor, BPC Engineering – the first via BPC since March 2015.

Capstone reports an order for seven of its C65 microturbines via its largest Russian distributor, BPC Engineering – the first via BPC since March 2015.

“This project moving forward signifies an improvement in the Russian market conditions and I estimate we will deliver another four to seven megawatts of new Capstone product next year,” he said, “plus a constant flow of spare parts to service our existing large fleet of microturbines.”

1,400 Units via BPC

The project is a CHP/combined heat and power installation for a swimming pool in Saint Petersburg, Skorokhodov said.

BPC has historically been one of Capstone’s largest and most successful distribution partners, with more than 1,400 microturbines in operation in Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine, Capstone says.

“We are hopeful that this reflects the beginning of an economic improvement in Russia and a return to a more robust relationship with BPC,” said Capstone sales and marketing executive VP Jim Crouse.

An Additional 15% of the Value as Make-Up

“Despite geopolitical constraints, BPC continues to sell and support Capstone products,” he said.

“We value BPC Engineering as a significant and long standing distribution partner,” said Capstone president and CEO Darren Jamison.

“Capstone has closely monitored the ongoing Russian economic situation while remaining in constant contact with BPC’s management in anticipation of a recovery in their business climate.

“As part of the strategic discussions between the two companies on the conditions moving forward,” Jamison said, “BPC Engineering has agreed to pay cash before shipment for all future product releases from backlog, and to pay an additional 15% of the value for each shipment, to lower their past-due accounts receivable balance.”
